Can you all smell the festivities in the air? Do you know why Bengalis go crazy about Durga Puja? Well, let me tell you why. Durga Puja is not just a festival it is an emotion! You can feel the Durga Puja vibe in the air even before it starts. It is a collective emotion of welcoming the goddess Durga and all the festivity around the same. It is also about how you dress up and how many pictures you take with your adda gang? Also, an eating session at your favorite puja joint! So much to do in Durga Puja and create beautiful memories.
Before I talk about the look I created for today, let me talk about some facts!
The autumn season brings an air of festivities in India which no one can resist. The following months begin with festivals like Navaratri and Dusshera in North and West India, Durga Puja in East India and Vijaya Dashami in South India. Being brought up in Kolkata, West Bengal, I have imbibed the culture of Durga puja and have grown up celebrating the festival.
Durga Puja celebrates the victory of the goddess Durga over the demon king Mahisasura. It begins on the same day as Navratri, a nine-night festival celebrating the divine feminine.

The festival honors the powerful female force in the Universe. Maa Durga is considered to be the mother of the whole Universe. Durga also called divine shakti, protects mankind from evil and misery by destroying evil forces and is worshipped in her various forms.

The fun and frolic during the Durga Puja is something which one cannot replicate. The five days of Durga puja are looked forward by the young crowds of Kolkata to showcase their dresses and fashion sense of course! But nobody can miss the traditional way of dressing up. Traditional attire of Bengali women is generally the saree, which is made up of cotton or silk. During the Durga Puja festival, one cannot miss the red and white saree, which is also known as the laal paar saree. Other than the laal paar saree, the other kind of sarees adorned by Bengali women are Dhakhai, Tant, Garad and Korial saree.
As I am really excited about the festival, I could not keep calm to style my favorite attire for you all. Traditionally, it is lal paar shada saree ( red border with white saree) but I am wearing an off white saree. Here, I have styled the traditional Bengali saree in a different way but in a not so traditional style. The saree is worn like a ghagra by pleating it once and tugging in and repeating it until full circle. Aanchal is taken in a triangular form and tugged inside the saree from the back. I have worn the saree with a red polka crop top (DIY) which has bell sleeves. To make it look like a blouse, I made a knot in the front. You can style any crop top with a saree or an off white shirt with this color combination that will rock the entire outfit.
The biggest accessory which one can style with a saree is a belt, which I wore a belt around the saree to cinch the waistline. To make it more glamorous, I completed the look by wearing silver earrings and a bindi! If you like heavy accessories then you can wear a silver choker neckpiece or a noise pin with some junk bangles. However, I believe in “ less is more” but you can accessorize much with some quirky style as well.
So those were my fashion tips on a different draping style of the saree. I hope you liked the Bong Fusion look with a twist. It is easy to recreate and easy to carry the entire day.
